Totem Pole

This is a 5th grade lesson on totem poles. We learned how to make 3D art using constructions paper. We also learned what the animals symbolized to the Native Americans. The Moose symbolizes unpredictability and spontaneity.
For an extension activity students could read books about totem poles and the culture.

Ceramin Leaf Bowl

This lesson is for 3rd grade. We made leaf bowls out of air dry clay. We used warm colors to paint it so they represented the season of Autumn.
An extension activity would be to create a sculpture of a tree that the leaf fell from.

Native American Story Telling

This lesson is for 4th grade. We learned about Native Americans and how they tell stories through pictures. We created a "cow hide" story. My story is, "My fiancé and I went camping and started a campfire under the moon. Then night came and we rested on blankets.
For an extension activity, students could read books about Native Americans and their culture.

Ideal Vacation

4th grade art project. We used 3D elements to create a landscape scenery that we would travel to. We had to include one form of transportation in the image.
Notecard says, "I'm going to a vacation in the valley of the Great Mountains. I will be going with my fiancé. We will take a canoe ride don the river."
An extension activity could be to create an animal that you will see on the vacation.

Kobra Know Keychains

This project is for 6th grade. We used primary or secondary colors to make the keychain.
For an extension activity, students could come back to class with other knock/braiding techniques to share with the class.

Crayon Etching

This project is for 3rd grade. For this project we colored paper with crayons using primary or secondary colors. Then we painted over the top of the crayon with black paint. Finally we scratched off the dried paint to create a scenery of color.
An extension activity for an older classroom, you can have the students photograph a scenery and transfer it on to the scratch paper.

Printmaking

This project is for 3rd grade. We learning about printmaking and we made our own. We made it by craving into foam, rolling paint on the foam, and using it as a stamp. We used symbols in our stamps. The symbols I used were: dog- my pet, house- new home, boy- fiancé, girl- me, apple- teacher, book- education, and rings- marriage.
An extension activity would be writing a research paper on the printing press.

Natural Mosaic

This project is for 3rd grade. We worked in groups to create a natural mosaic. My groups natural mosaic image was a leaf. We had to use a combination of warm and cool colors.
For an extensions activity the students could research other mosaics and write a paper.

Little Green

This lesson is for Kindergarten. We used shaving cream and tempera paint to make a monster. We learned about the primary and secondary colors. An extension activity could be using tissue paper and over lapping colors to create new colors.

Radial Symmetry Mandala

This lesson is for a 4th grade class to apply meaningful symbols that represent their own lives onto a work of art. We learned about mandalas and created our own. We had to list at least three symbols and their meanings. Extension activity could be writing a paper about the symbols you chose and why.
